A used generator for mining work has to be judged differently from a standby unit for a city building. The site may be remote, dusty, hot, wet, difficult to access, and far from service support. Start with the mining load profile
The first question is what the generator will actually support. A camp load, lighting circuit or office area is not the same as a crusher, mill, pump station or conveyor line. Motor starting can require more capacity than the running load suggests, especially when several machines start close together.
Before asking for stock, prepare a simple load list. Include each major load, rated power, starting method, starting sequence, expected running hours and whether the generator will work alone or with grid power. If the site uses variable frequency drives, soft starters or step loading, mention that early. Confirm standby, prime or long-hour operation
Mining projects often need prime or long-hour power, not just emergency standby. A unit that looks suitable on a nameplate can become the wrong purchase if it was quoted for light standby use while the site expects long daily operation.
- For standby support, define the critical load and expected outage window.
- For prime operation, send daily running hours, average load and peak load.
- For continuous or near-continuous work, ask what inspection, cooling and maintenance checks can be completed before shipment.

Frequency, voltage and site connection matter

Ask for proof of condition, not just warehouse photos
Warehouse photos are useful, but a mining buyer should ask for more than a clean overview picture. The condition file should include engine and alternator nameplates, controller photos, radiator or cooling system photos, turbocharger side photos, base frame condition, breaker or output panel details, and available running or test records.
Where possible, request inspection video, load-test information, refurbishment notes and photos before shipment. Consider dust, heat, fuel and maintenance access
Mining sites can be hard on generator equipment. Dust control, ventilation, cooling capacity, fuel cleanliness, filtration, service space and spare parts access should be discussed before shipment. If the generator will operate at high ambient temperature, high altitude or in a containerized layout, the buyer should say so in the RFQ.
Used units can still work well in demanding sites, but the buyer needs to know what will be checked and what must be prepared locally. Filters, hoses, control components, belts, batteries, starting system parts and common service items should be discussed as part of the export package when the site is far from a parts supplier.
Match brand choice to local service capability
Some mining buyers prefer Caterpillar, Cummins, MTU or other engine families because their technicians already know the platform or local service partners can support it. That preference is useful and should be stated. A cheaper unfamiliar model can be a poor choice if parts, service tools or technicians are hard to access in the destination market.

Do not leave transport details until the end
A mining generator shipment may involve heavy dimensions, special loading, accessories, spare parts, loose radiators, soundproof canopies, container loading or site-specific documents. The supplier needs the destination port and shipping scope before preparing a meaningful CIF price.
Ask the supplier to separate the equipment basis, packing and loading basis, shipment scope, destination port and documents.
